US imposes new curbs on Cuba

The United States on Thursday imposed new sanctions on five Cuban companies and Fidel Ernesto Castro, the 31-year-old grandson of revolutionary leader Raul Castro, as the Trump administration steps up economic pressure on the Communist-run Caribbean island.
The US State Department said it was sanctioning Fidel Ernesto Castro because he is an adult family member of other sanctioned members of the Castro family. Washington also imposed sanctions on Banco Exterior de Cuba, a state-owned bank, along with two companies involved in Cuba's nickel mining industry.
Two other companies active in the country's struggling energy sector, including an oil import company, were also sanctioned.
