Tim Curry’s cause of death revealed weeks after 'Rocky Horror' star’s death

Tim Curry died at 80 from coronary artery disease, with a stroke and kidney cancer listed as contributing conditions

Tim Curry’s official cause of death has been revealed following the actor’s death at age 80.

Curry, best known for his iconic performances in The Rocky Horror Picture Show and It, died on Aug. 25 at his home in Toluca Lake, according to a death document reportedly obtained by PEOPLE. The document, issued by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, listed coronary artery disease as his cause of death.

The document also reportedly named Curry’s previous stroke and kidney cancer as other significant conditions that contributed to his death. According to the report, he did not undergo surgery for the coronary artery disease, kidney cancer or stroke. A representative for Curry had not publicly confirmed the details at the time of publication.

The British actor became a pop culture icon after originating the role of Dr. Frank-N-Furter in The Rocky Horror Show on stage in London in 1973. He later reprised the role for the 1975 film adaptation, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, which became a cult classic.

Curry also earned widespread recognition for playing Pennywise the clown in the television miniseries adaptation of Stephen King’s It. His other notable film credits included Clue, Legend, Annie, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York and Muppet Treasure Island.

In 2013, Curry suffered a stroke that affected his mobility, and he subsequently used a wheelchair.

Following news of his death, fellow stars including Susan Sarandon, Carol Burnett, Lesley Ann Warren and Patricia Quinn paid tribute to the actor, remembering his talent, warmth and lasting impact on audiences.
