'The Secret Woman' ending explained: What happened to the real Louise?

'The Secret Woman' ending reveals Louise’s fate, Helene’s past and the truth behind the family’s criminal empire

Netflix’s Danish thriller The Secret Woman ends with major revelations about Louise’s identity, Helene’s disappearance and the criminal activities connected to her family.

The film follows Louise, played by Natalie Madueño, a woman living in Norway who suffers from amnesia. Her life changes when she learns that she may actually be Helene Söderberg, a wealthy Danish heiress who disappeared years earlier.

A DNA test confirms that Louise is Helene. She then returns to Denmark to uncover what happened before her disappearance. Her investigation reveals that Helene had been looking into a sex trafficking operation connected to her family’s shipping company.

The mystery also explains what happened to the real Louise. Louise was a sex worker who had collected evidence about the trafficking operation and worked with Helene to expose it. However, Edmund, Helene’s husband, discovered their plans. He struck Louise with his car, killing her before she could hand over the evidence.

Helene escaped by jumping from a bridge onto a cargo ship but suffered injuries that caused her amnesia. Louise’s body is eventually discovered near the end of the film.

The film also reveals that Helene’s father, Aksel, was murdered by Edmund’s mother, Caroline. Aksel had planned to end the trafficking operation after revealing the truth to Helene, but Caroline killed him to protect the family business.

In the final confrontation, Caroline urges Edmund to kill Helene. He refuses, and during the struggle, Helene accidentally causes Caroline to fall from a window. Edmund is arrested as Helene escapes.

The film ends with Helene returning to Norway with Joachim and her son, Alexander, as fragments of her memory begin to return.
