Sharjeel accuses MQM-P of stoking ethnic divisions for political gains

Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon accused MQM-P leader Mustafa Kamal of trying to revive ethnic divisions in the metropolis for political gains, saying the politics of hatred and polarisation had been rejected by the people.

Reacting to Kamal's recent remarks, Sharjeel alleged that the MQM-P leader was attempting to "fan hatred" in a bid to become the successor of the party's London-based founder.

"The politics of hatred and division pursued by the MQM has already been rejected. Those trying to create a rural-urban divide have been politically buried by the people before and will be again," he added in a statement.

Sharjeel said isolated examples and what he described as false claims could not change reality, adding that the PPP had always sought to remove "walls of hatred", while its opponents had tried to exploit divisions for political gains.

The senior minister said Karachi was "the heart of Sindh and the jugular vein of Pakistan's economy", accusing those who had allegedly damaged the city's image by associating it with terrorism of now targeting the federal government.

He alleged that MQM's politics had historically revolved around division, hatred and ethnic polarisation, adding that people had become aware of what he called the party's "false narrative and political theatrics".

"Giving an ethnic colour to administrative decisions is an attempt to keep failed politics alive," he said.
