Paris Jackson releases new songs honouring Michael Jackson on his birthday

Paris Jackson has released a double single honouring her late father, Michael Jackson, with the singer-songwriter saying she is “so proud” of the new music.

The 28-year-old released The Breeze and Just Me and You through Republic Records over the weekend, with the songs arriving on August 29, which would have been Michael Jackson’s birthday.

Michael Jackson, who was 50 when he died in 2009, was also the father of Prince Jackson, 29, and Bigi Jackson, 24.

In a teaser for an interview with Zane Lowe for Apple Music, published on Sunday, Paris discussed the new songs and described the release as part of a new period in her development as a musician.

"I'm so proud of this double single. I'm so proud of my coming into my own as a producer and coming into my own as a songwriter and also saying f**k the rules, we're not gonna have a chorus, we're not gonna have a bridge," she explained.

"The first one's gonna be the letter, and the kind of spoken word, and the second one is gonna be some verses and a chorus with a weird instrumental thing at the end."

Paris also said the songs provide an insight into her relationship with her father while making clear that she does not consider the release a complete statement about him.

"But by no means does it feel like a complete message of, 'Well, this is all I have to say about this.' It's like I'm probably just gonna keep the rest of it to myself for now," the singer added.

Following the release, Paris shared a statement on Instagram explaining how she viewed the project.

"It's not a commemoration. It's not a demonstration of any kind. It is a letter. It is a poem of the sonic variety. It is my honest experience - with love, loss, and para-social relationships vs a personal one," she declared.

Paris released her second studio album, Happiest Day of My Life, earlier this month. She is also preparing for a mini-tour, which begins with a show in Atlanta, Georgia, on Tuesday night.
