PR Police moves against goods smuggling

Inspector General Pakistan Railways Police Muhammad Wisal Fakhar Sultan has ordered a strict crackdown on mafias occupying railway land and cargo companies allegedly involved in smuggling illegal goods through trains.

The directives were issued during a conference of all Superintendents of Police (SPs) of the Pakistan Railways Police at the Central Police Office in Lahore, where the force's performance, crime situation and professional affairs during the past six months were reviewed.

The Railways Police registered 2,241 cases involving various crimes and arrested 2,581 suspects during the six-month period.

The IG directed officers to adopt more effective and coordinated measures against criminal elements and ensure indiscriminate legal action against those involved in criminal activities.

He specifically ordered officers to dismantle mafias, groups and organised networks involved in smuggling illegal goods through trains.

Private cargo companies found facilitating or participating in such activities would also face strict legal action, while their licences would be cancelled, he directed.
