Danganronpa 2×2’s Nintendo Switch 2 physical release has been changed from a full game card to a game-key card, prompting the cancellation of some pre-orders.

Spike Chunsoft confirmed that the Nintendo Switch 2 edition will now ship as a game-key card in every region, including North America and Europe. The publisher had originally planned to release the game on a full game card.

The company described the change as a decision that “was not taken lightly” and said it had no further details to share about the reasons behind the change.

Pre-orders placed directly through Spike Chunsoft’s US store for the Psycho Tropical Vacation Package have been cancelled, with customers receiving refund notices by email.

UK and EU customers who purchased through the official store will keep their orders, although the full game card will be replaced with a game-key card. Customers who pre-ordered through other retailers are also affected by the format change.

The Switch 2 version is the only edition affected. Danganronpa 2×2 will still launch on PS5 with a full disc and on the original Nintendo Switch with a standard cartridge.

Unlike conventional physical game cards, game-key cards do not contain the game data. Players must download the full game before playing, while an internet connection is required for the initial process.

Danganronpa 2×2 had previously been delayed to early 2027, with the change reportedly intended to avoid launching alongside GTA 6. The latest development affects only its physical format on Nintendo Switch 2.
