Bel-Air is getting a Coco Jones-led spinoff about Hilary Banks

Peacock is developing Hilary, a new Bel-Air spinoff starring Coco Jones as Hilary Banks, expanding the story of the popular drama series inspired by The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

The potential spinoff comes from writer and producer Tracy Oliver, known for Girls Trip, Little and The Blackening. If ordered to series, Hilary would make Bel-Air the first Peacock scripted original to receive a spinoff.

Jones played Hilary Banks throughout all four seasons of Bel-Air, which starred Jabari Banks as Will Smith. The series offered a dramatic reimagining of the classic sitcom, following Will’s move from West Philadelphia to the wealthy community of Bel-Air.

According to the reported logline, Hilary will follow Hilary after she accepts an unexpected job from celebrity chef Yvonne Durand. She moves to New York City determined to establish herself independently of her famous Bel-Air family connections. However, her pursuit of success, friendship and love comes with unexpected challenges.

Jones will executive produce the Bel-Air spinoff alongside Oliver, Will Smith, Terence Carter, David Boorstein and Miguel Melendez of Westbrook Studios. Other executive producers include Benny Medina, Andy Borowitz, Susan Borowitz, Morgan Cooper, the Jeff Pollack trust and the Quincy Jones estate.

Beyond acting, Jones is also an accomplished singer. She began her career as a child performer on Disney projects including So Random and Let It Shine before appearing in Vampires vs. the Bronx and Strung. She won a Grammy for her R&B hit “ICU.”

The Hilary series remains in development, meaning Peacock has not yet announced a release date or confirmed a full-series order.
