Karachi, Rawalpindi announce traffic plans for Eid Miladun Nabi processions

The federal government has announced public holiday for Eid Miladun Nabi across the country

Karachi and Rawalpindi traffic police on Tuesday announced traffic diversions and finalised arrangements for Eid Miladun Nabi (Peace Be Upon Him) processions scheduled for Wednesday (tomorrow).

According to the statement issued by the Karachi Traffic Police, "Three major processions will be held across Karachi on Wednesday to mark Eid Miladun Nabi (PBUH), with the city’s traffic police announcing widespread road closures and diversions and a ban on heavy and commercial traffic to manage the movement of commuters."

The statement said that the first procession, led by Maulana Yaqoob Attari, would assemble at Shaheed-e-Millat Masjid and depart at 2:30pm and would pass through Numaish Chowrangi and conclude around the time of Asr prayers.

A second procession, led by Maulana Akbar Sadran would leave Central Meethi Masjid at 2:30pm and would pass through Aram Bagh and conclude around Asr.

"The third procession, led by Maulana Shah Abdullah Qadri, is scheduled to depart from Central Meethi Masjid at 3pm and proceed to Nishtar Park, where it is expected to conclude at around 6pm. A Miladun Nabi (PBUH) conference is also scheduled to be held at Nishtar Park after the procession.

The traffic police said commuters would be diverted through alternative routes in the Central, East and South districts during the processions.

"Traffic heading towards the Guru Mandir route will not be permitted, while several diversions are announced around Garden, Liaquatabad, Shahrah-e-Faisal, Jamshed Road, MA Jinnah Road, Saddar and Pakistan Chowk," it said.

The traffic police also said all heavy and commercial traffic would be prohibited from operating within the city on Wednesday.

"MA Jinnah Road will also be closed to traffic in connection with the processions, with only vehicles carrying windscreen stickers confirming their participation in the processions allowed to enter the route," said the statement.

The traffic police urged citizens to use alternative routes before the processions to avoid delays and said officers would be deployed at diversion points to guide commuters.

"No vehicles would be allowed to park along the procession routes, while citizens can contact the Karachi Traffic Police helpline on 1915 for assistance and updates will also be available through its social media channels and Sindh Police FM 88.6," it added.

Rawalpindi traffic diversion plan

Separately, Rawalpindi Traffic Police released a traffic plan for Eid Miladun Nabi, with more than 910 personnel deployed to manage traffic during the processions.

"Two main processions will be held in Rawalpindi. The first will depart from Jamia Masjid Hanfia on Jamia Masjid Road, while the second will begin from 22 Number Chungi," it said.

According to the statement, the procession from Jamia Masjid Hanfia would pass through Pul Shah Nazar, Banni Chowk, Murree Road, Committee Chowk, Liaquat Road, Fawara Chowk and Dingi Khoi before concluding at the central camp at Jamia Masjid.

"Murree Road will be completely closed in both directions during the procession. Traffic travelling from Rawalpindi towards Islamabad will be diverted from Liaquat Bagh Chowk towards Tipu Road, while traffic travelling from Islamabad towards Rawalpindi will be diverted towards Rawal Road from the Rawal Road turn, " it said.

The statement added that the traffic travelling from Liaquat Bagh towards Fawara Chowk would be diverted from DAV College towards Gawalmandi.

"The second procession will depart from 22 Number Chungi and pass through Tanch Road, Dhoke Syedan Chowk, Kalma Chowk, 22 Number Chowk, Adra Road, the State Life Building turn, MH Chowk, Mehfooz Chowk, Mansehra Adda, Cantt Police Station, Nishter Street, Adam Jee Road, Mithu Khan Ahata, Railway Road, Military Accounts and Kamran Market before concluding at GTS Chowk, the former Waran Adda," said the statement.

During the procession, traffic travelling from Kalma Chowk towards 22 Number Chowk will be diverted towards Harley Street. Traffic heading towards Khatak Chowk, CMH and Tanch will also be diverted towards Harley Street.

"Once the procession reaches Mall Road, traffic approaching from Peshawar Road will be diverted from Qasim Market towards Sher Khan Road. Traffic travelling from Kacheri Chowk towards Peshawar Road will be diverted from TM Chowk towards Murree Road," said the Pindi traffic police.

The Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) Farhan Aslam said that the tractors, trailers and trucks would not be allowed to enter the procession routes and no parking would be allowed within a 300-yard radius of the stage.

"A special plan has also been prepared to facilitate ambulances, fire engines and other emergency vehicles. Traffic will be diverted to alternative routes along roads used by the processions, while additional personnel will be deployed to keep traffic moving on diversion routes," he said.

CTO Farhan Aslam urged citizens to avoid unnecessary travel on roads along the procession routes.

The federal government on August 21 announced a public holiday for Eid Miladun Nabi, with the Cabinet Division notifying August 26 as a public holiday across the country. The day is observed on 12 Rabi-ul-Awwal and is marked by religious gatherings, processions and special prayers.
