Punjab colleges to hire teaching interns

550 colleges authorised to recruit interns who will receive up to Rs60k monthly

RAWALPINDI:

The Punjab Higher Education Department (HED) has allowed all 550 colleges across the province to recruit College Teaching Interns (CTIs) on a daily-wage basis against vacant professor and lecturer positions for the new academic session 2026–27, instead of making permanent or contract appointments.

The department has also issued a schedule for the lump-sum remuneration to be paid to the teaching interns.

Candidates will not be required to hold professional teaching qualifications such as B.Ed or M.Ed to be eligible for appointment as college teaching interns. Interns teaching intermediate classes will receive a monthly honorarium of Rs50,000, while those teaching graduate and BS-level classes will be paid Rs60,000.

The interns will be entitled only to gazetted holidays and Sundays and will not be allowed any other leave. Any absence will result in a deduction from their remuneration on a daily-wage basis.

The age limit for applicants has been set at 10 to 40 years, while the required educational qualifications will include a BS, MA or MSc degree.

Appointments will be made from among residents of the respective district, with recruitment taking place at the relevant colleges. The recruitment process is scheduled to be completed in September, with lists of vacant positions to be displayed at the respective colleges.

The appointments will initially be made for seven months, from September 2026 to March 2027, with the possibility of an extension for another year.
