Five more degrees declared fake

Degrees of five more parliamentarians were declared fake on Wednesday including a senator, two MNAs and two MPAs.

LAHORE: Degrees of five more parliamentarians were declared fake on Wednesday including a senator, two MNAs and two MPAs.

Shah Abul Latif University declared the Bachelors degree of Senator Akbar Magsi as fake after verification.

Magsi's degree was sent to the university in Khairpur by the Higher Education Commission. Magsi is the younger brother of Balochistan Governor Nawab Zulfiqar Magsi and Sindh Food Minister Nadir Magsi.

HEC had also sent 50 degrees to the Bahauddin Zakariya University in Multan for authentication.

The University there, declared the degrees of PML-N MNA Syed Salman Mohsin Gilani, elected from NA-165 Pakpatan, and PPP MPA Waseem Afzal Gondal, elected from PP-119 Mandi Bahauddin, as fake.

The university also declared the degrees of 47 other parliamentarians as genuine.

Meanwhile Peshawar University also declared the degrees of PPP MNA Akhundzada Chatan from Bajour and PPP MPA Safina Saima Ghurki from Punjab as fake.

The controller examination of the Peshawar University has told Express News that no record was found of the degrees of the both parliamentarians.

HEC had sent degrees of 105 parliamentarians to Peshawar University for verification. The remaining 103 degrees were cleared and a report will be sent to the Higher Education Commission.

Schazad | 14 years ago | Reply I am so happy to see these developments. This has never happened before in Pakistan. This taking off veil from ugly faces of our politicians but at the same time, not all politicians are bad. Its us who makes the difference. If JD gets elected its our people who got him re-elected again. So we,people, become ugly faces not politicians. But when good politicians try to run for office, we don't elect them either. I have seen many educated people run for elections but unfortunately people don't look at their abilities, they are stuck in tribalism where one person decides for everyone. And all people follow his instructions like a herd of sheep and goats.

Shoaib | 14 years ago | Reply what i dont really understand is that how did these guys make it to the parliament with fake degrees? what this means is that the election commission never verified the degrees. so instead of disqualifying these parliamentarians, what we u really need is disqualifying the election commission for not doing its job properly

Ammad | 14 years ago | Reply What difference would it make, they will get re-elected again like Jamshed Dasti. There would have been a difference if they were banned from contesting elections again for commiting fraud. Why verify degrees when no action is to be taken.

Syed A. Mateen | 14 years ago | Reply Now after all that hustle and bustle, parliament has become a mixture of genuine and fake degree holders, but despite all this, parliament will remain supreme. I hope that in next general election, Election Commission will erase with the rubber the column of qualification(s) from the election form which candidates are suppose to fill while presenting their candidature. Otherwise, the alternate could be that candidates should tick mark in front of two given boxes in the given qualification(s) column: (1) Genuine; and (2) Fake.
