Amazon Prime Video appears to leak Jason Statham’s ‘Mutiny’ days before its cinema release

The 95 minute action thriller was briefly accessible to US Prime Video users before Amazon removed the listing

Jason Statham’s upcoming action thriller Mutiny was briefly made available in full on Amazon Prime Video in the US, just two days before its scheduled cinema release, in what appears to have been an accidental early upload.

The film, which stars Statham as former special forces operative Cole Reed, is scheduled to open in US cinemas on August 21, 2026. According to The Verge, however, the complete 1 hour and 35 minute film could be watched through the US version of Prime Video for at least an hour on August 19. The publication said its colleague Dominic Preston was able to verify that the film was playable in full before the listing was taken down.

The Prime Video page reportedly appeared to be fully configured rather than resembling an incomplete placeholder. It included the cast information, artwork and a description of the film, while viewers were able to access the complete feature. The listing has since been marked unavailable.

There is currently no indication that the early appearance was an intentional promotional move. It was reported that neither Punch Palace Productions nor MadRiver Pictures, the companies behind the film, is owned by Amazon. Lionsgate is distributing the film in the United States, further separating the production and theatrical release arrangements from Amazon.

Amazon had not publicly explained how the film appeared on Prime Video at the time of the report. The timing nevertheless created an unusual situation for a film that has been marketed as a theatrical release.

The official Mutiny website confirms that Lionsgate is presenting the film from MadRiver Pictures and Punch Palace Productions. It also lists Jean-François Richet as director, with Lindsay Michel and J P Davis credited as writers. Statham and Marc Butan are producers.

In Mutiny, Statham plays Cole Reed, a former special forces operative and New York police officer who now works in private security. His life changes after his billionaire employer is murdered and Reed is framed for the crime. He subsequently boards a cargo ship while attempting to uncover the truth, eventually finding evidence of a wider international conspiracy.

Annabelle Wallis, Roland Møller and Adrian Lester also star in the action thriller. Richet previously directed Statham in Plane, making Mutiny another collaboration between the actor and filmmaker.

The film has a reported runtime of 95 minutes and carries an R rating in the United States for language and strong, bloody violence. It is being positioned as a conventional big screen action release, with Lionsgate promotional material continuing to advertise it as a cinema only title ahead of its August 21 opening.
