Sindh hands Karachi primary health centres to PPHI
The government has placed all primary healthcare centres and dispensaries in Karachi's districts under the management of the Peoples Primary Healthcare Initiative (PPHI) Sindh, extending to the provincial capital a public-private partnership model already operating across rural Sindh.
According to a notification issued by the Sindh Health Department on June 30, and effective from July 1, all dispensaries operating under Karachi's district health offices have been separated from the department and handed over to PPHI.
The notification, signed by Health Department Deputy Secretary (Staff) Ali Nawaz Channa, directs all district health officers (DHOs) to prepare and verify inventories of medicines, medical equipment, supplies and other usable and non-usable items available at the facilities before handing them over to PPHI. The transfer comes at the start of the financial year, when budgets for primary healthcare facilities are generally released in July. The move is aimed at placing the budgets allocated for Karachi's primary healthcare centres directly under PPHI.
