Two security personnel injured as suicide attack foiled in Bannu
Two security personnel were injured on Tuesday when a suicide bomber attempted to target a security forces' vehicle in Bannu's Jani Khel Mali Khel area.
According to police sources, the bomber was riding in a rickshaw and attempted to strike a security forces' MRAP (Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected) vehicle near Al-Momin School. However, security personnel responded promptly and killed the attacker before he could reach the vehicle, averting potentially greater casualties.
The sources said Sepoy Zeeshan and Sepoy Khairuddin were injured in the attack. They were immediately shifted to CMH Bannu for medical treatment.
Meanwhile, Majlis Askari Karwan, a sub-group of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), claimed responsibility for the attack.
Following the incident, security was tightened in the area, while further investigations into the attack are underway.
Separately, the Bannu police on Tuesday foiled a major terror attempt by recovering and safely defusing suspected explosive material near the University of Science and Technology Township.
According to a police spokesperson, Township Police Station SHO Javed Rasool Khan, along with a police team, immediately reached the site after receiving information about the suspicious material and cordoned off the area.
The Bomb Disposal Unit also arrived at the scene and safely neutralised the explosive material, averting a potential major incident in Bannu.
The police said the timely action helped protect Township and adjoining areas from possible damage. Further investigation into the incident is underway.
