PPP's Kharal wins PS-30 Khairpur by-election

Pakistan Peoples Party candidate Barrister Asfandyar Khan Kharal has won the PS-30 Khairpur-V by-election, the Election Commission of Pakistan announced on Monday and issued Form-47.
According to Form-47 issued by the returning officer, Kharal secured 48,986 votes to win the seat that fell vacant after the death of his uncle, five-time MPA Naeem Ahmed Kharal.
Independent candidates Syed Qasoor Mehdi Hassan Shah and Muhammad Musa Buriro finished second and third with 1,299 and 702 votes respectively.
Voter turnout remained low at 20.53 percent. Out of 254,980 registered voters, 52,355 cast their ballots. The RO rejected 570 votes due to errors, while 51,785 votes were declared valid. The constituency has 133,337 male and 121,943 female voters. The PPP had awarded the ticket to Asfandyar Kharal, a legal practitioner and University of London graduate.
According to PPP sources, party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari personally handed him the ticket.The seat was previously held by Naeem Ahmed Kharal, who won it for PPP in the February 2024 general elections.
A total of 164 polling stations with 592 polling booths were set up in the constituency, which comprises Gambat and Sobhodero talukas. Police declared 64 polling stations "very sensitive" and 68 "sensitive."The victory allows PPP to retain the seat in the Sindh Assembly.
