Netflix’s 'East of Eden' series sets seven-episode adaptation for autumn 2026

Netflix’s East of Eden adaptation arrives autumn, with Florence Pugh and Christopher Abbott leading 7-episode series

Netflix is preparing to bring John Steinbeck’s East of Eden to television, with the seven-episode adaptation scheduled to premiere during autumn 2026.

The series has been in development for almost four years and will offer a modern interpretation of Steinbeck’s 1952 novel.

Netflix has not announced a specific premiere date but has confirmed that the series will arrive during the autumn.

Florence Pugh leads the cast as Cathy Ames, while Christopher Abbott plays Adam Trask. Mike Faist portrays Charles Trask and Hoon Lee plays Lee.

The cast also includes Tracy Letts as Cyrus Trask, Martha Plimpton as Faye, Ciaràn Hinds as Samuel Hamilton, Joseph Zada as Cal Trask and Joe Anders as Aron Trask.

Zada is also set to appear as Haymitch Abernathy in The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, which is scheduled to reach cinemas on November 20, 2026.

Netflix released a teaser trailer for East of Eden on May 13 as part of its upfront presentation. A full trailer is expected to arrive ahead of the series’ release.

Zoe Kazan wrote and executive produced the adaptation and serves as co-showrunner with Jeb Stuart.

Kazan’s grandfather, Elia Kazan, directed the 1955 film adaptation of East of Eden. Garth Davis directs the first four episodes, while Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre directs episodes five through seven.

Kazan, Stuart and Pugh executive produce alongside Davis, de Clermont-Tonnerre, Antoine Douiahy and Zack Hayden.

The series comes from Fifth Season and Anonymous Content and was filmed across multiple locations in New Zealand.

Netflix’s East of Eden will premiere in autumn 2026.
