Hogwarts Legacy sequel confirmed by Warner Bros. Discovery

Warner Bros. Discovery has confirmed sequel to Hogwarts Legacy is in development, with no release date announced

Warner Bros. Discovery has officially confirmed that a sequel to Hogwarts Legacy is in development, ending years of speculation surrounding the future of the successful wizarding world RPG.

The company confirmed the project in an August shareholder letter while outlining plans for its Games division.

Warner Bros. Discovery said games remain an important part of its long-term growth strategy and identified the second Hogwarts Legacy instalment as part of its expanding pipeline.

“Games remains an important growth lever as we work toward our long-term Studios segment goals,” the company wrote.

“We expect Games to more meaningfully contribute to segment profitability going forward as our pipeline expands, including the second installment of Hogwarts Legacy.”

The original Hogwarts Legacy was released in 2023 and became the highest-grossing game of that year, selling millions of copies. Its commercial performance helped establish the title as one of Warner Bros. Discovery's major gaming properties.

The sequel confirmation follows several years of reports and speculation about a potential follow-up. Job listings from Avalanche Software, the developer behind Hogwarts Legacy, had previously fuelled discussion about the studio's plans, although Warner Bros. Discovery had not officially confirmed a second game until now.

While the company has confirmed that Hogwarts Legacy 2 is in development, it has not announced a release date or provided details about its gameplay, story or setting.

Warner Bros. Discovery also revealed plans to focus its gaming strategy on four major franchises, with the company pursuing fewer projects with greater emphasis on its strongest properties.

The sequel will follow the commercial success of the original game, which allowed players to explore Hogwarts and the wider wizarding world.

The first title also drew discussion among players over features including the absence of Quidditch and the consequences, or lack thereof, surrounding certain spells and actions.

Warner Bros. Discovery's shareholder letter also acknowledged that its first-half 2026 releases “fell short of expectations”, increasing the importance of its future gaming pipeline.
