Alex Cooper’s Unwell is now worth $500 million after first outside investment

Alex Cooper and Matt Kaplan’s Unwell hits $500 million valuation after Patrick Whitesell’s WTSL invests

Unwell, the media company co-founded by Alex Cooper and her husband, Matt Kaplan, has secured its first outside investment from Patrick Whitesell’s investment firm, WTSL. The deal values the company at $500 million, according to Unwell.

The investment amount was not disclosed. Cooper and Kaplan, who launched Unwell in 2023, will retain a majority ownership stake in the company. Unwell said the funding will serve as growth capital as it expands its media business.

Cooper, whose Call Her Daddy podcast remains Unwell’s flagship franchise, said the company reaches about 70 million women each month. The company says 89% of its audience is female, with 72% between the ages of 18 and 35.

WTSL was founded by Whitesell after he left Endeavor and WME. The investment firm focuses on media, entertainment and sports and has previously backed companies including Peyton Manning’s Omaha Productions.

Unwell has expanded beyond podcasting into television, streaming, YouTube content and live events. Its projects include the Hannah Montana 20th Anniversary Special for Disney+, programming with Peacock and the reality series Love Overboard with Hulu. The company also has upcoming Netflix projects, including Let’s Marry Harry and Icebreaker.

The company claims to have nearly 100 million followers across social media platforms and generated more than 1.7 trillion earned media impressions in 2025. It also operates a consumer products business and has a partnership with SiriusXM.

The investment comes amid recent reports about alleged workplace issues at Unwell. Cooper has publicly disputed the allegations, saying people should not believe everything reported online.

Kaplan is also the founder of ACE Entertainment, whose credits include To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before and XO, Kitty.
