Jaden Newman leak could be considered federal criminal offence under TAKE IT DOWN Act

Leaked intimate videos of Jaden Newman drew attention to new federal rules requiring platforms to remove such content

Jaden Newman has addressed the alleged leak of intimate videos circulating online, bringing renewed attention to the federal protections now available under the TAKE IT DOWN Act.

Newman, a college basketball player and social media figure, said during a Twitch livestream that she had been hacked after intimate material allegedly appeared across social media platforms and third-party websites in early August 2026.

"I unfortunately got hacked," Newman said during the livestream.

The incident comes less than three months after the TAKE IT DOWN Act became enforceable. Signed into law on May 19 2025, the legislation criminalises the intentional publication of certain nonconsensual intimate visual depictions and establishes a removal process for victims.

Under the law, covered online platforms must provide a mechanism for people to request removal of intimate images or videos shared without their consent.

Once a valid request is received, platforms must remove the material and known identical copies within 48 hours. The Federal Trade Commission began enforcing those platform obligations on May 19 2026.

The legislation applies to both authentic intimate imagery and certain digitally created or altered material, including AI-generated images.

It also makes intentional disclosure of qualifying nonconsensual intimate depictions a federal criminal offence.

For offences involving adults, the law provides for a fine, imprisonment of up to two years, or both. Where minors are involved, the maximum imprisonment term is three years.

Newman's brother, Julian Newman, also responded to the controversy on August 6. He defended his sister against online criticism and disputed the characterisations being made about her.

"I just wanted to get my point across… my sister, she ain’t a h*e, bro. She ain’t out here doing what y’all think she doing," Julian said.

He also alleged that a former boyfriend was responsible for the leak, although that claim remains unverified.
