Health experts in Wilmington, North Carolina, are weighing in on body image, eating disorders and the potential impact of comments about someone's appearance as Ariana Grande faces renewed scrutiny over her body.

Dr. Erika Fisher, a licensed therapist in Wrightsville Beach, said stepping away from the public eye and establishing boundaries can be beneficial for someone dealing with intense scrutiny. She praised Grande for prioritising her wellbeing as she prepares to take a break from public-facing work after her Eternal Sunshine tour concludes on September 1.

Dr. Kathleen Young, a psychologist at Novant Health, warned that negative comments about a person's weight or appearance can contribute to poor body image and affect not only the person being discussed but also people who encounter those comments online.

The experts stressed that conversations about someone's body can be particularly harmful to people already struggling with body image or disordered eating. They encouraged anyone experiencing concerns surrounding food, body image or eating disorders to seek support from a primary care provider or qualified health professional.

Social media users have been worried for Grande citing eating disorder concerns for the superstar. Some are even comparing her condition to that of Karen Carpenter of the Carpenter rock duo who died after suffering from anorexia nervosa, a deadly eating disorder.
