ISLAMABAD:

The bodies of five foreign mountaineers recovered from Broad Peak after last week's deadly avalanche were airlifted from Skardu to Islamabad on Friday, where they will be handed over to their respective embassies before being repatriated to their home countries.

The climbers were among 10 foreign mountaineers who went missing after an avalanche struck Broad Peak on July 31.

Their bodies were recovered during a joint search operation carried out by Pakistan Army Aviation and ground rescue teams on Thursday after days of search efforts in the high-altitude region.

The recovered bodies were wrapped in the national flags of their respective countries before being flown from Skardu to Islamabad.
