Holly Black teases a magical future for 'Folk of the Air' fans with major expansions
Fantasy author Holly Black is expanding her bestselling Folk of the Air universe with a wide range of new books, merchandise and multimedia projects, offering fans more ways than ever to explore the world of Elfhame.
Black has signed a major publishing deal for four new Faerie universe novels, including one young adult title scheduled for release in 2027 and three adult novels. The expansion also includes The Cruel Prince graphic novel series, which is set to launch in spring 2028 with annual releases.
Before those titles arrive, readers can look forward to A Conspiracy of Charming Monsters: Illustrated Tales from Elfhame, releasing on November 3. The collection features illustrations by Frostbite Studios, continuing Black’s collaboration with the creative team behind several upcoming projects.
The author is also branching into interactive experiences with Enemies & Lovers: The Crown of Elfhame, a card game developed with Frostbite Studios following a successful Kickstarter campaign. Additionally, Holly Black’s Faerie Tarot Deck and Guidebook, created with Ivy O’Neil and Mélanie Bourgeois, is scheduled for release on August 11.
Fans of the series will also be able to collect the first official Folk of the Air Funko Pop figures, inspired by the beloved fantasy characters. Black described the collaboration as a surreal milestone after years of seeing fan-made versions of the collectibles.
The Folk of the Air franchise is also heading to the screen after Amazon Studios acquired the adaptation rights in a major deal, with Scott Free Productions attached to produce the project.
Black credited her loyal fan community for the continued success of the series, noting that fan art, cosplay and online communities have helped the fantasy world grow far beyond the pages of her novels.
