Kaia Gerber rejects lookalike comparisons with mom Cindy Crawford

Kaia Gerber has spent years being compared to her supermodel mother Cindy Crawford, but the actress and model has revealed that she has never understood why so many people believe they look alike.

While promoting Ryan Murphy's new FX series The Shards, Gerber addressed the long running comparisons that have followed her career. Despite regularly being described as Crawford's double across fashion campaigns, magazine covers and red carpet appearances, the 24 year old said she does not see the resemblance herself.

"It’s an honor when people tell me I look like my mom. I wish I did," Gerber said in an interview with Yahoo. "I think even on my best days, I’m not even close."

The remark surprised many fans because Gerber has frequently been praised as the image of Crawford, whose modelling career helped define the late 1980s and 1990s. Mother and daughter have even appeared together in advertising campaigns and fashion editorials, often drawing comments about their similar facial features and expressions.

Gerber made it clear that she considers the comparisons flattering rather than frustrating. Instead of distancing herself from Crawford's legacy, she spoke warmly about her mother's timeless beauty and admitted she views those compliments as a privilege.

Her latest role in The Shards has reignited those discussions. The series, based on Bret Easton Ellis' novel of the same name, is set in 1980s Los Angeles and follows a group of wealthy high school students whose lives become increasingly complicated as a serial killer stalks teenagers across the city. Gerber portrays popular cheerleader Susan Reynolds, with styling inspired by the glamorous hairstyles and fashion of the era.

Preparing for the role even led to a conversation with Crawford about her famous hair routines during the 1980s. Gerber admitted she struggled to believe the amount of effort required to achieve the period accurate look.

"I was like, 'There's no way you were doing your hair like this before high school,'" Gerber recalled telling her mother. Crawford replied that she regularly woke up at 4am to put curlers in her hair before school.

Laughing about the revelation, Gerber admitted she has never been willing to devote that level of time to her appearance.

The interview also revisited some of Crawford's most celebrated fashion moments. Gerber previously told People that she admires her mother's unforgettable red Versace gown from the 1991 Academy Awards as well as the iconic 1992 Pepsi commercial. However, she believes some moments are so memorable that they should remain untouched instead of being recreated.

"But it's like some things are just so good you do not even want to touch them," she previously explained.

Although Gerber remains unconvinced that she resembles Crawford, public opinion has consistently told a different story.
