Ex-PAEC chief hailed as 'silent hero' of nuclear programme

Speakers at a memorial reference for former Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission (PAEC) chairman Parvez Butt on Thursday paid tribute to his contribution to Pakistan's nuclear programme, describing him as a "Silent Hero" for his lifelong commitment and professionalism.

The reference, organised by Senator Mushahid Hussain Sayed in the federal capital, was attended by members of Butt's family, former directors general of the Strategic Plans Division (SPD), engineers, scientists, technicians from PAEC and people from different walks of life.

In his keynote address, Senator Mushahid described Butt as a dedicated and competent professional who remained committed to the nuclear programme throughout his career.

He said Mr Butt was a "silent hero" of Pakistan's nuclear project because he believed in professionalism rather than self-promotion.

Senator Mushahid said five individuals were instrumental in the development of Pakistan's nuclear programme, including former prime minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, whom he described as the architect of the programme.
