Shuja Asad, Kubra Khan bid emotional farewell to 'Doctor Bahu' after finale

Co-stars reflect on their characters' journeys, cherish on-set friendships and thank fans for embracing the serial

Actors Shuja Asad and Kubra Khan have bid emotional farewells to their Doctor Bahu characters, thanking fans for supporting their journeys while reflecting on the friendships they built during the drama's nine-month production.

The two stars took to Instagram after the serial concluded last week, with their characters, Salman and Dr Sania, finally reconciling.

While Asad reflected on portraying an imperfect man whose journey underscored accountability, growth and redemption, Khan paid tribute to the cast and crew, saying the bonds formed on set were unlike anything she had experienced before.

Asad shared a photo with his on-screen wife, Dr Sania, alongside a heartfelt farewell to Salman, thanking viewers for embracing a character who was deeply flawed yet ultimately sought redemption.

"Thank you to everyone who watched, supported, debated, agreed, disagreed, and felt something throughout this journey," he wrote.

Reflecting on the role, Asad acknowledged that Salman was never meant to be a perfect protagonist.

"My character wasn’t written to be perfect. He stumbled, made mistakes, carried pain, and at times became someone he never wanted to be. But he also owned those mistakes, apologised, and tried to find his way back. That’s what made playing him so human," he said.

The actor added that Doctor Bahu addressed several important social issues and expressed hope that its story would continue to spark meaningful conversations beyond the finale.

"One of the most beautiful things about storytelling is that it starts conversations long after the credits roll. If our drama encouraged families to talk about difficult subjects like grief, control, unhealthy relationships, forgiveness, or accountability, then I believe we achieved something meaningful," he wrote.

Asad concluded by thanking the cast, director, writers, producers and crew for trusting him with the role, before expressing gratitude to audiences who welcomed Salman into their homes each week.

He signed off simply: "Until the next story."

Several members of the Doctor Bahu team responded to the post, including producer Mehreen Jabbar and co-star Khan.

"I am very happy you said yes," Jabbar commented, while Khan replied with a GIF of her character smiling and nodding.

Fans also praised Asad's message, with many saying the drama offered a realistic portrayal of modern society.

"I loved this drama so much. It was such a realistic picture of today’s society and had an empowering message," one fan wrote.

Khan also marked the end of the drama with a collaborative Instagram post alongside Jabbar, sharing behind-the-scenes moments from the set.

"Hello everyone, I'm Dr Sania—actually, no, Kubra," she joked at the beginning of the video.

Quoting Elton John's Your Song, Khan said the drama had left a lasting emotional impact.

"There is a song called Your Song by Elton John. 'It's a bit funny, this feeling inside, but not one of those you can easily hide.' Doctor Bahu had the same effect. It brought so many emotions and so many feelings, not just through the script but through the people on set," she said.

She credited the positive atmosphere on set for making the experience especially memorable.

"If you have a good set, good vibes, and mutual respect, half of your work is already done. We wouldn't just laugh during the romantic scenes, but even in the emotional ones. I don't know how those nine months went by. I'd love to say we were like a family, but we were more like kids in school. We were always there for one another and stuck together no matter what. That was the beauty of it."

With Doctor Bahu concluding, fans have already begun looking ahead to Asad and Khan's future projects. Many also hope the pair will reunite on screen, eager to see the chemistry that made Salman and Dr Sania such a popular couple once again.
