Pakistan to break up gas monopolies

ISLAMABAD:

Pakistan has finalised a roadmap for gas sector transformation aimed at creating a competitive, open and efficient market, with the reform plan set to be submitted to the prime minister for approval by the end of August, according to a statement on Tuesday.

The roadmap, developed by the petroleum division with technical support from the World Bank, proposes restructuring and unbundling of Sui companies by separating transmission, distribution and energy businesses while creating opportunities for private sector participation. Federal Minister for Petroleum Ali Pervaiz Malik met with World Bank Country Director to review the roadmap.
