FM Dar departs for Jordan to attend ministerial meeting on Jerusalem's worsening situation

Dar will meet regional counterparts on the sidelines of the Jerusalem ministerial meeting in Amman

Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar departed for a one-day visit to Amman, Jordan, on Tuesday to participate in the Ministerial Meeting on Jerusalem, the Foreign Office said.

In a statement, the Foreign Office said the meeting would be held on Aug 5.

According to the statement, Dar will reaffirm Pakistan's unwavering support for the Palestinian people and their just cause during the visit.

It added that the deputy prime minister would also hold bilateral meetings with participating foreign ministers and exchange views on regional and international developments.

Earlier in another statement, the Foreign Office said that Dar would attend the meeting at the invitation of Jordan's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Al Safadi.

"The meeting will bring together foreign ministers from the Arab League and a group of Islamic countries, including Pakistan, with the aim of formulating a unified position on the fast-deteriorating situation in occupied Jerusalem," the statement added.

According to the statement, the participating foreign ministers will also call on King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein of Jordan during the visit.

It added that Dar would also hold bilateral meetings on the sidelines of the conference with participating foreign ministers to exchange views on regional developments, including Palestine, as well as other issues of mutual interest.

The Foreign Office said the deputy prime minister's participation in the Ministerial Meeting on Jerusalem was a manifestation of Pakistan's principled support for the Palestinian people and its unwavering commitment to the establishment of an independent, sovereign and contiguous State of Palestine, based on the pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.

Senior officials from Türkiye, Jordan, Palestine, Egypt, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Indonesia, Bahrain, Iraq, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Somalia and Malaysia, as well as the secretary-general of the Arab League, are expected to attend.

Participants are expected to discuss preserving the historical and legal status of Jerusalem's holy sites, developments in occupied East Jerusalem and the West Bank, Israel's actions that are deemed contrary to international law, the Gaza ceasefire process, recent developments concerning the Palestinian issue and international efforts to implement a two-state solution.
