Tarbela spillways open amid surging water levels
.

The spillways of Tarbela Dam were opened on Monday to safely manage rising water levels, with the discharge expected to increase the River Indus flow from around 220,000 to 245,000 cusecs, prompting authorities to issue safety advisories for downstream communities.
According to the NDMA, the increased discharge is expected to raise water levels in the River Indus, posing potential risks to people living near the river and its waterways.
The authority urged residents to avoid going near the river, streams and other water channels and advised people in low lying areas to remain vigilant. The NDMA said all authorities were asked to ensure preparedness and timely response.
