'Your countdown has begun': Bilawal warns of launching movement against govt over alleged rigging in AJK polls

Says struggle for right to sovereignty, ownership, and livelihood will continue across the country

Pakistan People's Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari on Monday said that the "countdown for the federal government had begun" as he lashed out at federal coalition partner Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz for alleged rigging in the Azad Jammu and Kashmir elections.

Senior leaders from both parties have held competing press conferences as rigging accusations have intensified. The PPP accused the federal government of interfering in the elections through development announcements and misuse of official resources, while the PML-N alleged the PPP was itself attempting to manipulate the vote, claiming ballot papers had been recovered from the residence of a rival candidate.

In a series of posts and video messages on X, Bilawal said the recent elections were not transparent and fair but were "rigged elections, these were bullet elections, these were killer elections, these were bloody elections.

He added: "Despite all this, you have made the PPP victorious on nine parliamentary seats. The seats that were stolen from you in Mirpur and Muzaffarabad, God willing, I will deliver them to you."

The PPP chairman said that the struggle for the right to sovereignty, the right to ownership and the right to livelihood would continue, and this movement would no longer remain confined to the mountains of Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.

"I will carry forward this movement for the right to sovereignty, the right to ownership, and the right to livelihood across the entirety of Pakistan. My message to the friends of PML-N is just this much: that voice is reaching you!! Listen carefully! Tick tock tick tock. Your countdown has begun," he warned.

He paid tribute to the people of Kashmir for the "courage and boldness with which you confronted the threats, rigging and bullets of the Muslim League N ... I salute you".

He noted that during the election campaign, the workers of the PPP "embraced martyrdom; our member of the National Assembly was shot in the hand; an attack was made on the president of our state of Azad Jammu and Kashmir".

Bilawal stated that his workers did not lose heart or retreat, and showed the entire world how the PPP fought for the rights of the people of Kashmir, including the right to sovereignty, the right to ownership and the right to employment.

Earlier, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Political and Public Affairs Rana Sanaullah said PML-N had secured a simple majority in the 45-member AJK Legislative Assembly after winning 13 of the 20 seats contested so far.

Meanwhile, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar stated that while political point scoring was part and parcel of the election process, more effort should have been put in by the PPP, as it had done in the Gilgit-Baltistan elections, to secure victory.

Tarar further criticised Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon for his "baseless accusations" of election rigging and asked where the evidence for this was, adding that accusations should be backed with irrefutable evidence and should not be made for their own sake.
