Henry Cavill expands Warhammer 40,000 universe with new Amazon animated series

Amazon is developing a Warhammer 40,000 animated series with Henry Cavill producing alongside Games Workshop

Amazon MGM Studios is expanding its Warhammer 40,000 universe with a new animated event series currently in development, Variety has reported.

The project is being developed by Amazon MGM Studios, Blur Studios and Games Workshop, with actor Henry Cavill attached as an executive producer.

The upcoming Warhammer 40,000 animated series will be connected to Amazon’s animated anthology Secret Level, which featured a dedicated Warhammer 40,000 episode when it premiered on Prime Video in 2024. Blur Studios, the company behind the original episode, will also produce the new project.

Cavill, who is already involved as an executive producer and potential star of Amazon’s live-action Warhammer 40,000 series, will help expand the franchise across multiple formats. The animated project is being developed alongside the live-action adaptation, which remains in progress.

Dave Wilson, who directed the Warhammer 40,000 episode of Secret Level, will serve as co-creator and director of the new animated series. He is developing the project with writer John Orloff, known for his work on Masters of the Air and Band of Brothers.

While plot details remain under wraps, the series will reportedly focus on The Deathwatch, an elite faction of Space Marines known for battling dangerous alien threats across the Warhammer 40,000 universe.

The creative team also includes executive producers Tim Miller, Natalie Viscuso, Roy Lee and Andy Smillie, alongside representatives from Blur Studios and Games Workshop.

The announcement continues Amazon’s push into video game adaptations following the success of Fallout on Prime Video. The studio is also developing projects based on popular franchises including Tomb Raider, God of War, Mass Effect and Wolfenstein.
