Three minor girls drown

SHANGLA:

Three minor girls drowned after being swept away by the strong currents of the Indus River while bathing in the Jhatkol area of Shangla.

According to Rescue 1122, the victims, aged between 10 and 15 years and residents of Jhatkol village, entered the river to bath when they were caught in the fast-flowing current. Local residents immediately alerted emergency services, prompting Rescue 1122 Shangla and Rescue 1122 Torghar to launch a joint search and rescue operation.

Divers and rescue personnel conducted an extensive search, but the operation was temporarily suspended late Saturday night due to poor visibility and the dangers posed by darkness. The search resumed early Sunday morning with additional teams deployed. Officials said recent monsoon rains had significantly raised the Indus River's water level.
