Floods 2011: Media pledges support for survivors

CPNE Secretary-General said that the media is playing a pivotal role in creating awareness about floods victims.

KARACHI: The Council of Pakistan Newspaper Editors (CPNE) Secretary-General Aamir Mehmood has said that the journalist community will continue to support flood victims in their time of need. He said that the media is playing a pivotal and positive role in creating awareness among all strata of the society to  help flood victims. Addressing a gathering at the CPNE office on Tuesday, he said that positive reporting by media creates hope among the affected people and it encourages relief workers. Mehmood said that the floods have caused more devastation this year than it did last year. The briefing was attended by a large number of senior editors and journalists including Mehmudul Aziz, Dr Jabbar Khattak, Nasir Hashmi, Muzafar Aijaz and Athar Hashim.
