George and Amal Clooney evacuate French home due to wildfires in southern Europe

George and Amal Clooney have evacuated their home in Brignoles, France, as wildfires continue to spread across parts of southern Europe.

The couple, who live in the town with their nine-year-old twins, Alexander and Ella, left their property after fires threatened areas of the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region in southeastern France.

The region is among several affected by ongoing wildfires across France, Spain, Italy and Greece.

A representative for George Clooney confirmed that the couple announced their evacuation in a letter addressed to Brignoles mayor Didier.

"Dear Didier, At this point we have no idea whether our beautiful home makes it through this terrible moment," the letter began.

"As we evacuate Brignoles we want to emphasise two things: first, we hope you and the people of our city are safe; and second, that Amal and I are committed to making sure that whatever happens to our village, we are part of this community and we'll be part of making it whole."

The couple concluded the message by expressing their affection for the town and its residents.

"We love Brignoles and our friends who live there."

The evacuation comes as authorities continue responding to widespread fires affecting several European countries.

According to CNN, approximately 224,000 people have been evacuated in France's Gironde region, while a further 3,000 residents have left homes in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region.

The report also states that more than 63,000 people have been evacuated because of similar wildfires in Spain.

George and Amal Clooney have owned their Brignoles home for several years and have previously spoken about their connection to the local community.
