Nara Smith has rejected the "trad wife" label frequently associated with her social media content, saying the description does not reflect her life, career or family dynamic.

The model and content creator addressed the topic during an appearance on the Call Her Daddy podcast, where she explained that she was unfamiliar with the term when it first began circulating online.

Smith rose to prominence in late 2023 through TikTok videos showing her preparing meals and drinks from scratch while dressed in glamorous outfits, content that has often been linked to the so-called "trad wife" movement.

Speaking on the podcast, Smith said, “They kind of used me as the poster child for the tradwife movement, which was very bizarre to me. I had to look up the term, because I wasn’t familiar with that.”

She explained that the label does not align with her life, adding, “I don’t prioritize being a homemaker, I’m a working mom.”

Smith said she enjoys cooking because of both her passion for food and the dietary needs associated with her autoimmune disease, rather than because she believes it is an expected role. “Sure, do I love cooking because it’s my passion and because I kind of have to due it given my autoimmune [disease]? Absolutely. But that’s a passion of mine. It’s a hobby. It’s not something that I need to be doing.”

She also described how household responsibilities are shared with her husband, model Lucky Blue Smith. “My husband burns everything, apart from a good steak, so he’ll do that. But I love cooking, so I’m doing it. Household and cleaning? He does the dishes. I don’t touch the dishes. There’s no way you’re going to see me washing and scrubbing the dishes. Also, he cleans our house. He’s very specific with how things need to be cleaned, so he does it.”

Smith also dismissed the idea that her husband is the family's sole provider. “Do I support the husband’s role as the primary breadwinner? No. We both work. That doesn’t make any sense. I provide for our family.”

She revealed that the perception surrounding the "trad wife" label has affected her professionally, saying she has lost business opportunities because of it.

According to Smith, one potential collaborator told her, “I don’t care what you say, what you do, what you show me, what Forbes articles you show me of her business. She is a trad wife to me, and I don’t wanna work with her.”

Smith believes the discussion reflects a wider issue about how women are perceived. She said, “I find it very concerning that we need to put women in very specific, very narrow boxes in order to make sense of them,” adding that women should be able to balance careers, family life and personal interests without being confined to a single label.
