Are Kaia Gerber and Homer Gere related? Inside the shared past of 'The Shards' co-stars' parents

Kaia Gerber and Homer Gere appeared together on the red carpet at the world premiere of The Shards in New York City, drawing attention as the children of former Hollywood couple Cindy Crawford and Richard Gere.

Gerber, 24, and Homer, 26, star together in Ryan Murphy's upcoming drama series, which premieres on August 5.

Their appearance attracted interest because Gerber's mother, supermodel Cindy Crawford, and Homer's father, actor Richard Gere, were married from 1991 to 1995 before starting families with different partners.

Speaking to Entertainment Tonight at the premiere, Gerber acknowledged the connection, saying, “such a small world.”

Despite their family history, Gerber revealed they had not met before filming began.

“I’d actually never met Homer until we started filming the show. I met him about a week before we started. But it was so nice. Honestly, he’s such a joy to work with and such a lovely person. He grew up East Coast, I grew up West Coast, but we’ve just gotten so close, and I couldn’t have picked a better scene partner, honestly.”

Crawford attended the premiere at the SVA Theatre to support her daughter's acting career and was later seen arriving at the after-party in Chelsea. Richard Gere did not attend the event.

Set in Los Angeles in 1981, The Shards follows a group of prep school students as a serial killer known as “The Trawler” targets teenagers.

Developed by Ryan Murphy with author Bret Easton Ellis, the series is based on Ellis's semi-autobiographical novel.

Gerber described the production on Good Morning America as a “seductive drama thriller” that “navigates sex, identity, obsession, and the horrors that lie beneath the surface of American adolescence”.

The Shards premieres on FX and Hulu on August 5 before streaming on Disney+ the following day.
