Govt almost doubles diyat amount

ISLAMABAD:

 The government fixed the amount of diyat at Rs19,352,390 for the current fiscal year 2026-27, almost double the amount set for fiscal 2025-26, according to a notification issued by the Ministry of Finance on Tuesday.

Diyat or the blood money is compensation for murder payable by the offender to the heirs of the victim, as required under the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC). The amount equates the value of 30,630 grams of silver under subsection (2) of Section 323 of the PPC.

The notified amount marks an increase of around 97% over Rs9,828,670, set for the last fiscal year.
