Badin Municipal Committee approves Rs509.8m budget

House unanimously passes resolutions related to uplift schemes

The Municipal Committee Badin has approved a surplus budget of over Rs509.8 million for the financial year 2026-27 during a budget session.

According to the budget presented, the total outlay is Rs509.8 million with a surplus of Rs1.07 million. Total estimated expenditures stand at Rs508.8 million.

Addressing the session, Chairman Pir Muhammad Saleh Qureshi said the Sindh government provides Rs55.4 million annually to the Municipal Committee under OZT. In addition, Rs33 million is released every month for development works and salaries, amounting to nearly Rs396 million per year.

He added that Rs297 million has been allocated for salaries and pensions of employees during the fiscal year. Rs60 million has been earmarked for development funds for councilors of the committee's 14 wards. The budget also includes allocations for public welfare and civic facility projects.

The house unanimously passed several key resolutions related to law and order, development schemes, water supply, drainage, and urban services.

Vice Chairman Akbar Memon expressed concern over rising crime and insecurity in Badin and moved a condemnatory resolution against the performance of Badin Police, which was approved unanimously.

Chairman Qureshi also presented a resolution highlighting that no special development package has been given to Municipal Committee Badin for the last three years, despite the Sindh chief minister's approval of Rs1.98 billion in August 2023.

The resolution demanded immediate release of the funds to complete pending water supply, sewerage and drainage projects and to ensure provision of basic facilities to citizens.

To improve city security, the meeting approved a proposal by Vice Chairman Memon to install CCTV cameras at key points in collaboration with the traders' community.

Under the plan, the Municipal Committee and traders will each contribute Rs1 million. A proposal was also made to seek additional funds from police for the project.

Addressing the session, the councilors put forward proposals for a permanent solution to water shortage, modern drainage, sanitation, road repairs and other civic issues, and pledged to utilise all available resources to provide better municipal services.
