KARACHI:

The police have caught an alleged target killer who was notoriously known by the  alias of ‘Grenade’ among his gang members.

Nadeem Abdul Mateen aka Grenade was nabbed during a police raid in Korangi on Tuesday. Korangi SHO Mohammad Farooq Satti told The Express Tribune that the suspect belongs to one of the leading political parties in the city. “It is because of this political backing that he is proving to be a tough nut to crack and isn’t spilling the beans,” said the officer.

However, a witness has come forward and identified Nadeem as the target killer who had committed murders in Korangi Industrial Area’s Bengali Para last Ramazan. “We’re not too worried that he isn’t saying much at the moment. Eventually, they all break down,” said Satti.

Other suspected accomplices, including Usman Jalil, Naeem alias Babloo and Mansoor alias Mansha, have also been caught along with a 0.3-bore pistol. They were booked for carrying illegal arms.

Nadeem appears to be a repeat offender, having been booked in previously filed cases for murder and dacoity at Korangi, Zaman Town, and Korangi Industrial Area police stations.

On Monday, the police had arrested two other target killers from Korangi’s Zaman Town area. The suspects, Amjad Sarzameen and Sher Hakeem, like Nadeem Grenade belonged to the same leading political party and were said to be involved in at least four murders.
