Love Island USA season eight winners Bryce Alakai and Trinity Tatum have opened up about the realities of living in the villa, admitting that the glamorous dating show was far less luxurious behind the scenes than viewers might imagine.

In an exclusive interview with People, the newly crowned couple described sharing the Fiji villa with nearly 20 contestants as being "like we were in a barracks," saying privacy was almost non-existent throughout filming.

"There were so many people," Trinity said, comparing the communal sleeping arrangements to military-style living, while Bryce joked that everyone was packed into the bedroom together with little personal space.

The pair also revealed that contestants were responsible for preparing many of their own meals, with Bryce quickly becoming known as the villa's breakfast chef.

According to Trinity, Bryce's bacon, egg and cheese sandwiches became legendary among the Islanders, and may even have helped win her over after Casa Amor.

"He makes the best bacon, egg and cheese," she said, laughing that his cooking skills certainly didn't hurt their relationship.

Both Bryce and Trinity said they never expected to win the competition. Bryce explained that he originally joined the show after being contacted through Instagram, while Trinity received similar outreach and was advised to pack as though she were moving away rather than going on holiday.

That advice proved useful, with Trinity bringing an extensive wardrobe, including an entire suitcase of heels, some of which eventually ended up in Bryce's luggage.

Since leaving the villa, the couple have been adjusting to life outside reality television while making plans for the future together. Trinity, who is from Newport News, Virginia, said she is considering relocating to Los Angeles to be closer to Bryce as they continue building their relationship.

Bryce and Trinity were crowned the winners of Love Island USA season eight after developing one of the strongest connections in the villa. Although they initially formed a friendship, their relationship deepened after Casa Amor and ultimately earned them America's vote as the season's winning couple.
