Prince Harry is facing renewed scrutiny over his finances following reports that mounting legal costs and reduced commercial opportunities have placed increasing pressure on the Duke of Sussex’s wealth.
According to a report from RadarOnline, Harry could face significant financial challenges after losing a legal battle against Associated Newspapers Limited (ANL), the publisher of the Daily Mail. A High Court hearing is scheduled to determine how much of the publisher’s legal costs Harry and the other unsuccessful claimants may be required to pay.
The report claims the potential liability could amount to tens of millions of dollars, although the final amount has not been determined by the court.
Harry and Meghan Markle stepped back from their royal duties in 2020 and later signed high-profile commercial agreements with Netflix and Spotify. While those partnerships generated substantial income, reports suggest some of the deals have since ended, leading to speculation about the couple’s future business opportunities.
The Duke previously revealed that he relied on the inheritance left to him by his late mother, Princess Diana, to support the family's move to the United States and the purchase of their Montecito, California, home.
The report also claims the couple continues to face significant ongoing expenses, including mortgage payments and security costs. However, these claims have not been independently verified, and neither Harry nor Meghan has publicly commented on the latest financial speculation.
The report further cites unnamed sources alleging that the Sussexes' finances have become strained following legal expenses and changing business prospects. Such claims remain unconfirmed.
A court hearing later this month is expected to clarify the extent of any legal costs Harry may be ordered to pay, which could provide a clearer picture of the financial impact of the case.
