Two statues were discovered during excavation work in Karachi’s Old City Area, specifically at Lea Market on Friday.

In a message posted on social media, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab said that the historical authenticity and significance of the statues would be determined by experts, and they were moved to another location.

According to details, restoration work at Lea Market in the Old City Area was underway under the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) when two ancient-style statues were unearthed during digging. Both statues appear to be in excellent condition.

The mayor added that cultural authorities have also been contacted to assess how old they were, their significance and whether they resembled any previously discovered artefacts.

He further said that excavation at the site was being carried out carefully to ensure that any additional statues, if present, could be preserved safely. Scientific analysis would also be conducted to clarify all aspects of the discovery. Various departments would work on the matter and the KMC said that complete details would be shared with the media once available.
