HRCP launches signature campaign
The Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) has launched a public signature campaign calling for stronger laws against torture in police custody and has urged citizens to support legal reforms.
According to the HRCP, physical abuse, psychological torture, threats and humiliation continue to be reported in police custody, while the existing legal framework remains inadequate to hold perpetrators accountable.
The commission is urging members of parliament to introduce key legal reforms, including criminalising psychological torture, establishing independent investigations into complaints against the police.
