K-P Assembly session marks historic firsts

PESHAWAR:

The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Assembly's ninth session has completed one full year, during which it witnessed several historic milestones, including the first-ever sitting held outside the assembly premises and a change in the province's top leadership.

Summoned by the Governor on the government's request on July 20 last year, the session has so far held 58 sittings. In a significant development, former Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur resigned on October 8, paving the way for Sohail Afridi's election as the new Chief Minister on October 13.

One of the most notable moments came on April 22 when the provincial assembly convened at the Imran Khan Cricket Stadium, marking the first time in the assembly's history that proceedings were held outside the main building.

Throughout the year, lawmakers engaged in extensive debates on the province's law and order situation. A traditional jirga was also held inside the assembly on the issue. Following members' proposals during the debate, a special Parliamentary Security Committee was constituted on September 8 to address security concerns.
