LAHORE:

A one-and-a-half-year-old girl was killed and seven members of her family injured after a sanitation service truck reportedly collided with their vehicle near Lahore Bridge in Kot Lakhpat on Sunday.

The body of the victim, Dua Fatima, was shifted by rescue personnel to a morgue after completing legal formalities. Uzma, 40, Dilawar, 35, Fazilat, 29, Noor Fatima, 15, Anas, 13, Meerab, nine, and Abdullah, four, were injured in the accident. They were shifted to a nearby hospital.

Preliminary investigations showed that the accident was caused by speeding.

Police said bystanders caught the truck driver, identified as Qasim, and allegedly manhandled him before traffic wardens rescued him from the mob. He was handed over to Kot Lakhpat police.

A case has been registered against the driver, while the police launched an investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the accident.

The incident also disrupted traffic in the area before authorities cleared the road and restored the flow of vehicles.
