Flour producers slash ex-mill price by Rs8/kg

Reduction takes immediate effect, with wholesale and retail prices also set to decline

KARACHI:

In a move expected to bring immediate relief to households grappling with high food costs, flour mill owners in the city have agreed to slash the ex-mill price of wheat flour by Rs8 per kilogram, paving the way for lower wholesale and retail prices across Karachi.

The agreement was reached during talks held on Sunday at the Commissioner Karachi's office between Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi and representatives of the flour milling industry. The negotiations were held on the directives of Sindh Secretary Asif Haider Shah.

Under the agreement, the ex-mill price of flour has been reduced from Rs133 per kg to Rs125 per kg. Officials said the decision will take immediate effect, with corresponding reductions in wholesale and retail market prices expected to follow.

The meeting was attended by Pakistan Flour Mills Association Chairman Abdul Junaid, Vice Chairman and former PFMA chairman, other association representatives, flour mill owners, Food Secretary Ghulam Abbas, the Chairman of the Chief Minister's Inspection, Enquiries and Implementation Team, and other officials.
