Backrooms passes $350M worldwide, becoming A24's highest-grossing film across multiple international markets

A24's breakout horror hit Backrooms has surpassed $350 million at the global box office, cementing its place as the studio's highest-grossing film ever both domestically and internationally.

The film crossed the milestone after 37 days in cinemas, with its worldwide total now standing at approximately $357 million.

Directed by Kane Parsons, who first gained recognition through his viral Backrooms YouTube series, the low-budget horror film has become one of the biggest surprise successes of 2026. Produced on a reported budget of just $10 million, the film has outperformed several major studio releases, highlighting the continued demand for original horror films.

The film has also broken multiple records for A24 across international markets. In China, Backrooms has earned nearly $15 million, maintaining strong momentum with only a modest decline in its latest weekend. It has also become A24's highest-grossing release in France, Taiwan, Russia and the CIS, Poland, and Thailand, demonstrating impressive global appeal.

Elsewhere, the film continues to perform steadily. Germany recorded a weekend increase in ticket sales, while the Benelux region has contributed approximately $4 million, with strong holds in Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands.

The success of Backrooms further strengthens the growing influence of filmmakers who built audiences online before transitioning to feature films. Parsons joins a wave of creators successfully making the leap from YouTube to Hollywood, following the recent commercial success of Curry Barker's Obsession, which has also posted impressive worldwide box office figures.
