Julia Garner to star in Apple TV+ true crime series 'Guilty Creatures'

Julia Garner will lead Apple TV+'s 'Guilty Creatures', a true crime drama based on a real Florida murder case

Julia Garner has signed on to star in and executive produce Guilty Creatures, a new true crime drama ordered by Apple TV+.

The upcoming series is based on Mikita Brottman's nonfiction book Guilty Creatures: Sex, God, and Murder in Tallahassee, Florida and will bring a real-life murder case to the streaming platform.

According to Apple TV+, Guilty Creatures explores the psychological aftermath of a passionate relationship between two married, religious lovers whose affair leads to murder. The series follows the emotional consequences of their actions as they live with the secret for nearly two decades before the truth finally emerges.

The story is inspired by the disappearance of Mike Williams in December 2000. Although Williams' body was never initially found, suspicions grew years later when his longtime friend, Brian Winchester, divorced his wife and married Williams' widow, Denise. The full details of the case eventually came to light nearly 18 years after the killing, making it one of Florida's most widely discussed true crime stories.

Craig Gillespie, known for directing Supergirl and Apple TV+'s Your Friends & Neighbors, will direct the series. Stuart Zicherman has been appointed showrunner, while Sarah DeLappe adapted the screenplay from Brottman's book. The project is being produced by Tomorrow Studios in collaboration with Garner's Alma Margo banner and Gillespie's Fortunate Jack Productions.

Garner continues to expand her television career following acclaimed performances in Ozark and Inventing Anna. She recently completed filming Netflix's The Altruists, based on the collapse of cryptocurrency exchange FTX, and also stars in The Fantastic Four: First Steps and Wolf Man.

A release date for Guilty Creatures has not yet been announced by Apple TV+.
