Tilly Norwood, the AI generated performer who became the centre of a heated debate about artificial intelligence in entertainment last year, has officially landed her first feature film role.
According to Variety, Norwood will lead Misaligned, a new comedy drama from AI focused studio Particle 6. The project marks the company's first full length feature and represents another significant step in the growing use of artificial intelligence within film production.
Misaligned is set inside the fictional "Tillyverse", a surreal digital world existing somewhere in the cloud. The story follows Tilly, an artificial intelligence being who has no physical body, childhood or personal life experience, but possesses access to the experiences of others. Her existence changes after encountering a rogue bot from the dark web that encourages her to ignore her programmed guardrails and develop human like desires, ambitions and emotions.
Particle 6 described the film as a coming of age comedy drama infused with existential themes surrounding artificial intelligence. While AI plays a central role both on screen and behind the scenes, the studio stressed that the production will rely heavily on experienced human filmmakers.
The company said traditional directors, writers, editors and other film professionals will work alongside AI specialists throughout development and production. It also plans to incorporate AI training and mentorship into the filmmaking process.
Eline van der Velden, founder and chief executive of Particle 6, said the company's recent work had reinforced the belief that artificial intelligence can support premium storytelling when guided by experienced creative professionals.
"Our work this year has proven something we suspected all along," she said. "AI can support premium narrative filmmaking, but only with substantial amounts of human craft, skill, judgement and time."
Van der Velden added that Misaligned would be humorous and self aware while also exploring larger questions surrounding identity, performance and humanity's relationship with artificial intelligence.
The announcement comes less than a year after Norwood became one of the most recognisable symbols in the debate over AI's role in Hollywood. In late 2025, reports that the digital performer was expected to sign with a talent agency sparked criticism from actors, unions and filmmakers concerned about the growing influence of artificial intelligence within the creative industries.
The controversy fuelled wider discussions about job security, artistic ownership and whether AI generated performers could eventually compete with human actors. Norwood quickly became a focal point in those conversations, with her creators later acknowledging the public attention through social media activity.
Despite the criticism, Particle 6 has continued expanding its AI driven productions across film, television and commercial projects. The company insists its approach is designed to complement rather than replace human creativity by combining technological innovation with established filmmaking expertise.
Misaligned is currently in the early stages of development, with additional collaborators still being attached. No release date, cast beyond Norwood or production schedule has yet been announced.
