Two die in separate incidents

BATAGRAM:

Two separate incidents in Batagram claimed the lives of a power lineman and a teenage student, while another youth sustained serious injuries in a road accident on Sunday.

Power lineman Sher Muhammad, a resident of Koshgram, was carrying out maintenance work on a high-tension line of the Alai Feeder-II in the Deshan area when the line was suddenly energised. He suffered a fatal electric shock and died at the scene.

Sources alleged that the deceased lineman and his colleagues had formally informed the staff at Chattar Grid Station before commencing work. However, despite the prior notification, electricity was reportedly restored to the line. The exact circumstances that led to the incident have yet to be established.

Officials said a departmental inquiry has been launched to determine the cause of the incident, and the facts are expected to emerge following the completion of the investigation.

After the necessary legal formalities, the body of the deceased was handed over to his family and transported to his native village for burial.

In a separate incident, a 15-year-old student was killed when a car plunged into a deep ravine while negotiating a bend near Qanjbori.

The deceased was identified as Sudeer Shah, son of Zubair Shah and a resident of Maidan, Batagram. He died at the scene, while another young man travelling in the vehicle sustained serious injuries.

The injured youth was shifted to Ayub Teaching Hospital, Abbottabad, for specialised treatment.

The accident occurred in a remote and difficult-to-access area. Local residents, assisted by Rescue 1122 teams, carried out a lengthy rescue operation lasting several hours before recovering the victim's body and evacuating the injured passenger from the ravine.
