Minionese performances of Olivia Rodrigo, Queen and Jackson 5's songs go viral at 'Minions & Monsters' premiere

Performances of iconic songs in the fictional Minionese language have gone viral following the premiere of Minions & Monsters, drawing widespread praise and humorous reactions online.

The performances took place during the film's premiere at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood on June 28.

The event featured four performers entertaining guests ahead of the film's theatrical release on July 1.

One performer delivered the entirety of Queen's classic hit "Bohemian Rhapsody" in Minionese, the fictional language spoken by the Minions throughout the Despicable Me franchise.

Another performer sang Olivia Rodrigo's “drop dead”, while a rendition of the Jackson 5's “I’ll Be There” received the event's Golden Banana award.

The viral clips quickly spread across social media, with many viewers praising the effort required to perform the songs in the fictional language. One user wrote, “Freddie Mercury would’ve been proud….somehow.”

Others joined in with playful responses inspired by the song and the franchise. One fan commented, “Galileo, Galileo, Galileo… banana! The opera section finally hits different.” 

Additional reactions included,“This is why I pay for the internet.” One fan also praised the performer's commitment, writing, “She demonstrated unwavering dedication by learning the entire operatic section in Minionese. Give her an Oscar right now.”

Minions & Monsters, the seventh feature film in Illumination's Despicable Me franchise, stars Zoey Deutch, Jeff Bridges, Allison Janney, Bobby Moynihan, Jesse Eisenberg, Trey Parker and Phil LaMarr.
